FDA announces new recommendations for simvastatin dosage

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is recommending that 80 mg simvastatin (Zocor) not be prescribed to new patients because of the associated risk of myopathy, particularly within the first 12 months of use. The FDA recommends that the 80 mg dose be used only in patients who have been taking that amount for at least 12 months and have not experienced any muscle toxicity. Read more.
