New innovative device for monitoring heart failure shows promise

In the future, a small sensor inserted into the pulmonary artery may be used to collect pulmonary artery pressure data and send it electronically to the patient’s health care provider. In a study of the device, which has not yet been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the system resulted in a 30% reduction in heart failure hospitalizations at six months and a 38% reduction in yearly heart failure hospitalization rates.
