Whereas, nurses in Nebraska constitute our state’s largest health care profession; and
Whereas, the more than 36,000 registered nurses, advanced practice nurses and licensed practical nurses in Nebraska are not only the cornerstone of patient care, but are also at the forefront in improving the quality of care and seeking ways to continue increasing access to care; and
Whereas, in addition to addressing vital healthcare needs, nurses have a critical understanding of the challenges patients face, and are concerned with their patient’s overall well-being and encourage healthy living and preventative practices; and
Whereas, nurses are advocates, healers, and bridge builders, and believe in creating conditions for everyone to thrive and will lead the charge to transform healthcare into a system that is just, inclusive, and truly equitable for all; and
Whereas, the Nebraska Nurses Association is the voice for the nurses in this area. The association is working to chart a new course for a healthy state that relies on increasing delivery of primary and preventative health care; and
Whereas, the nursing profession is dedicated to meeting the emerging healthcare needs of the state by saving lives and improving the outcome of medical care in a wide range of settings; and
Whereas, nurses show unwavering dedication to their patients by providing the highest level of individual care and attention by meeting healthcare needs and preserving the dignity of each patient; and
Whereas, for twenty-three consecutive years, the American Public has ranked nurses the professionals with the highest honesty and ethical standards. These results underscore the deep trust the public has in nurses.
Whereas, nurses throughout Nebraska are recognized for their outstanding commitment to serving the health and welfare needs of the citizens of our state and, in turn, helping to make Nebraska the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Whereas, along with the American Nurses Association, the Nebraska Nurses Association has declared May 6-12 as Nurses Week, with the theme “The Power of Nurses,” with appreciation for nurses’ unparalleled impact and their contributions to health care, and an open invitation to thank a nurse at #ThankANurse for enriching our lives and the world we live in, therefore be it
Resolved, that I, Governor Jim Pillen, ask that all residents of Nebraska join me in honoring the nurses who care for all of us, and be it further
Resolved, that the residents of Nebraska celebrate nurses’ accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system and show our appreciation for the nation’s nurses not just during this week, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
