DEAR MISSOURI NURSES,
At the Missouri Nurses Association (MONA), we are proud to represent you and to fight for the issues that matter most to our profession. Here’s how we’re advocating for you right now:
PROTECTING NURSES FROM WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
No nurse should fear for their safety at work. That’s why MONA is:
- Supporting stronger penalties for assaults on healthcare workers.
- Collaborating with hospitals and law enforcement on prevention strategies, de-escalation training, and safety protocols.
- Advocating for passage of the Workplace Violence Prevention Act.
FIGHTING FOR SAFE STAFFING
You’ve told us that staffing is your #1 concern—and we’re listening:
- We support legislation to require transparent staffing plans and nurse involvement in decision-making.
- We’re promoting nurse retention incentives and advocating for workforce pipeline investment to grow and support our future nurses.
- We’re working with healthcare leaders to advance acuity-based staffing models that put patient safety first.
PUSHING FOR FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY FOR APRNS
APRNs are critical to expanding access to care—especially in underserved areas. MONA is leading the charge to:
- Pass legislation that removes restrictive collaborative practice agreements.
- Educate lawmakers and the public about the safety, cost-effectiveness, and quality outcomes of APRN-led care.
- Join national coalitions pushing Missouri toward full practice authority in line with evidence and national trends.
MOVING FORWARD—TOGETHER
As we look ahead, our success depends on your voice and your engagement. Whether it’s joining our legislative action alerts, sharing your story, or participating in local advocacy efforts, your involvement strengthens our collective power.
Please stay connected by visiting https://missourinurses.org/ or following us on social media for updates on how you can make a difference.
Together, we will continue to protect our profession, advocate for the well-being of nurses, and build a healthier Missouri for all.
With pride in our profession and hope for what’s ahead,
Sincerely,
Cynthia Aurentz, DNP, MSN, RN, CNE
