President, Florida Nurses Association

Dear Colleagues and Friends, it is both a privilege and with great humility that I begin my service as the Florida Nurses Association’s newly elected president. I stand before you as a nurse who is deeply dedicated to our profession and the health of our communities, eager to launch us into a new era marked by visibility, advocacy, and impact. Nursing is primary healthcare, but we as a specialty are not always heard in the public sphere. The Florida Nurses Association’s mission is to advance the profession of nursing and promote a healthy Florida. We serve as the voice of nurses, advancing the profession through advocacy, education, and professional development. Our vision is to be the recognized leader in improving nursing practice and healthcare delivery across the state, ensuring every Floridian receives quality care. Guided by this mission and vision, I commit to fostering a strong community of nurses empowered to influence health policy, promote excellence in nursing practice, and champion the well-being of the populations we serve. Together, we will elevate the nursing profession and shape the future of healthcare in Florida.

My top priorities as your president are simple and straightforward:

1. Foster public trust to educate using data-driven science:

Disinformation can be a major enemy of public health. As nurses, we are in a special position to supply our communities with accurate, evidence-based information. The FNA will develop efforts to increase scientific literacy among Floridians so that their decisions are based on solid scientific information for a better life.

2. Empower nursing as the voice for education and practice safety:

Nursing education and practice environments must improve if we are to succeed in delivering high-quality care, which is crucial to us. I will advocate for training and initiatives that ensure nurses can continue to learn and grow in their careers, protect the rights of every nurse, and support safe work environments.

3. Increase the visibility of FNA through social media connections:

Connection and communication are key in our modern digital world. We will maintain an active presence on social media, which will inform both our membership and the broader community about our successes and progress. With the use of these tools, the FNA will be a reliable and available voice for nursing in Florida.

We will raise the voice of nursing in Florida with more influence than ever before. I am excited to stand with all of you as we stride toward a healthier future where science, trust, and nursing excellence are paramount.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment.

In solidarity and service,

Marcos Gayol, Ed.D, APRN, FNP-BC, CNE
