President
Iowa Nurses Association
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the renewal that spring brings.
As we reflect on the first few months of 2025, I want to thank each of you who remained flexible and committed to advocacy despite the need to shift our Legislative Day plans —not once, but twice. While we were disappointed to cancel our in-person Advocacy Day on the Hill, we are grateful for the engagement we saw in our virtual efforts. Your continued participation ensures that the voice of nursing remains strong across Iowa, no matter the format.
In place of our traditional events, we have leaned into virtual town halls to stay connected and amplify the issues that matter most to our profession. These town halls have been a powerful space for real-time dialogue, updates on legislation, and grassroots mobilization. If you have not joined one yet, I encourage you to do so—we need your voice now more than ever.
As the Iowa legislative session heads toward its scheduled conclusion on May 2, it is more important than ever to stay informed and ready to act. Our bill tracker—available on the INA website—remains an essential tool for following key legislation that impacts nursing and healthcare across the state.
Looking ahead, I am honored to represent Iowa at the ANA Membership Assembly and Hill Day in Washington, D.C. this June. This is a tremendous opportunity to elevate the concerns of Iowa nurses on the national stage and continue pushing for the policies and practices that empower our profession and improve patient care.
And of course, we recently celebrated Nurses Week by highlighting the “Power of Nursing.” As always, we want to celebrate and recognize each of you and the powerful role you play in every corner of healthcare. Whether you are at the bedside, in the boardroom, in academia, or advocating on Capitol Hill, your impact is real and far-reaching. Thank you for the difference you make every day.
Let’s keep the momentum going and make 2025 a year of resilience, connection, and meaningful progress.
Warm regards,
Greg Opseth, MHA, BSN, RN
