All NFK Board and Nominating Committee positions are filled for 2026-27. Board Members are Annette Cannon, President; Betsy Wolfe, Vice President: Irene Drabek, Secretary; Allison Windes, Treasurer; Kathy Crisler, Rita Beam, Jean Schroeder and Norma Tubman, Board Members at Large. Congratulations to newly elected Board Member at Large Rita Beam. Nomination Committee members elected were Rita Beam, Irene Drabek and Barbara Pederson.

To celebrate Nurses Week Nurses Furthering Knowledge. (NFK) members Susan Bakewell, Rita Beam, Annette Cannon, Kathy Crisler, Irene Drabek, and Norma Tubman attended a luncheon at Danny Rae’s Restaurant in Lakewood on May 5.

Anne Kay RN, MSN, CPNP, who specializes in care of children with medical complexities, was our May speaker. Her presentation “Nirsevimab vs Palivizumab: A Three-Season Analysis of RSV Hospitalization and Length of Stay in High-Risk Infants” found that vaccinations reduced hospitalizations and length of stay, if hospitalized, for infants diagnosed with RSV.

Congratulations to Jean Schroeder PhD, RN on receiving the Sigma Theta Tau Alpha Kappa At Large Chapter Award for Excellence in Nursing Education. This award recognized Jean’s outstanding contributions to nursing education and her dedication, innovation, and impact on learners and the profession. Mentioned in the nomination was her consulting business Nursing Strategies and Consulting helping nursing students throughout the nation on testing, improving NCLEX pass rates and program improvement. Jean worked at Arapahoe College as the Retention Coordinator and taught nursing at Platt College and Regis University in the graduate and undergraduate programs.

Maya Lindgren, the NFK 2024 Scholarship recipient, graduated as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Colorado Mesa University in the spring. She has presented her stole of gratitude, a symbolic tradition worn by the graduate during the ceremony and presented to someone who supported them throughout the program, to NFK. Kathy Crisler and Irene Drabek were mentors to Maya as she prepared a poster session and an oral presentation on her research to complete for her degree.

Our next meeting is August 19 when we meet to do our planning for 2026-27. All CNA members are welcome to join the meeting. Information is posted on the Colorado Nurse Association website.
