Faith community nurses are licensed, registered nurses who practice wholistic health for self, individuals and the community using nursing knowledge combined with spiritual care. Faith Community Nursing is recognized as a specialty by the American Nurses Association and American Nurses Credentialing Certification. Faith community nurses function in paid and unpaid positions as members of the pastoral team in a variety of religious faiths, cultures, and countries. The focus of their work is on the intentional care of the spirit, assisting the members of the faith community to maintain and/or regain wholeness in body, mind, and spirit.

- Faith Community Nursing: Scope and Standards
- Code of Ethics with Interpretive Statements (for nurses)
Purpose of FCNA OK
….to preserve, support and advance the professional practice of faith community nursing in Oklahoma. Interested registered nurses and health ministers come together to pray, witness, support, learn and share in the context of faith and health. This organization exists to share practice ideas in faith communities and to nurture personal spiritual development. FCNA OK further supports the training, continuing education, certification, and mentoring of Faith Community Nurses. FCNA OK members represent many different Christian denominations but is open to members of any faith tradition.

Meetings and Education Presentations
“Meeting dates: October 14,2025. 2026: January 13, April 14, July 14 & October 13
FCNA OK meetings are quarterly on the second Tuesday of January (zoom), April, July, and October from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both in person and virtual. Each meeting includes two hours of continuing education good towards licensure renewal of which cost is included in membership dues.
Educational presentations 2025 included: Creating Mental Health Ministry in Your Congregation, Intimate Partner Violence and the FCN’s role, Mental Health Medications Update and the FCN, Pet Therapy in the Congregation
The FCNAOK annual conference is held on the first Friday in March. 2026 Conference will be “The Treasures of Aging: Perspectives of Grace and Wisdom” March 5-6,2026 at Kramer School of Nursing and Crossings Community Center in Oklahoma City.
