The American Academy of Nursing inducted three NJSNA members, Kevin Emmons, Jamille Nagatalon-Ramos, and Tracy Vitale, at its Annual Conference, “Impact through Integrity and Trust:  As Navigators and Translators,” held at the Marriot Marquis in Washington, DC  on October 18, 2025.  These distinguished nurse leaders were among 300 inductees named Fellows of the Academy of Nursing (FAAN) who are from 42 states, DC, and 12 countries.  They join the Academy’s 3,200 fellows. The Academy’s mission is to improve health and health care equity by improving policy through nursing leadership, innovation, and science:   

Kevin Emmons

Clinical Professor 

Emmons is a Clinical Professor at Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden. He leads initiatives that advance nursing education and community-based care through academic-community partnerships. His experience as a veteran, along with his expertise in mobilizing and scaling community-driven solutions, led to his appointment as Chief Nursing Officer at one of NJ’s Field Medical Stations during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he coordinated interdisciplinary teams across civilian and military sectors. He has received national recognition for integrating wound care, public health, and outreach to underserved and structurally vulnerable communities, including individuals experiencing homelessness, veterans, and rural populations, that improve care by addressing upstream causes of health disparities. Dr. Emmons earned his BSN from Rutgers University, an MSN and DrNP from Drexel University, and a postmaster’s NP certificate from UMass Boston.

Jamille Nagtalon-Ramos

Assistant Professor 

Nagtalon-Ramos is an Assistant Professor at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and a women’s health nurse practitioner hospitalist at Penn. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos is the only currently practicing women’s health nurse practitioner in the world whose research program centers on examining sexual and reproductive health disparities among Filipino women across the global diaspora. As a third-generation nurse born and raised in the Philippines with over two decades of women’s health experience, Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos’ research is deeply informed by her cultural heritage, clinical practice, and global collaborations. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Rutgers University. She completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. n

Tracy Vitale

Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs 

Vitale serves as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, overseeing clinical and academic practice partnerships. As a national leader in DNP education, she is recognized for her transformative contributions that have redefined the landscape of nursing education. Dr. Vitale’s work bridges academic innovation with clinical relevance, ensuring DNP graduates are prepared to lead sustainable, system-level changes. Her leadership in state and national organizations has helped shape the national dialogue on the role of nurses in education, practice, and policy. She has held leadership roles in the New Jersey State Nurses Association and the Organization of Nurse Leaders of New Jersey and serves as a manuscript reviewer for several peer-reviewed nursing journals. Dr. Vitale received her BSN from The College of New Jersey, her MSN from the University of Phoenix, and her DNP from Rutgers University
