A Message from the Executive Director

Megan Lowery MSN-Ed, RN

As summer begins to wind down, many of us find ourselves preparing for a new season. Students return to classrooms, educators welcome new learners, healthcare organizations launch new initiatives, and nurses across Nebraska continue to adapt, lead, and serve in ever-changing environments. There is an unmistakable energy that comes with this time of year—a sense of renewal, possibility, and purpose.

That same energy is alive within the Nebraska Nurses Association.

Over the past several months, I have had the privilege of witnessing the incredible dedication of our members, volunteers, and leaders. From our Recognition Breakfasts, where we celebrated nurses making an extraordinary impact in their communities, to the countless hours our committees have invested in advancing the profession, I am continually reminded that the strength of our organization is found in the people who choose to step forward and make a difference.

Our committees have been hard at work developing resources, strengthening advocacy efforts, planning educational opportunities, and creating new ways to engage nurses across every stage of their careers. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, its impact reaches every corner of our profession. Each conversation, meeting, and initiative is guided by a shared commitment to ensuring Nebraska nurses have a strong voice today and for generations to come.

That commitment is perfectly reflected in our upcoming Annual Convention theme: Honoring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future.

Nursing has always been built on those who came before us—the leaders who advocated for our profession, the educators who inspired us, and the colleagues who mentored us through our first days at the bedside and beyond. Their legacy provides the foundation upon which we continue to innovate, lead, and transform healthcare.

As we look toward the future, we also recognize that each of us has a role in writing the next chapter of nursing in Nebraska. Whether you are a student, a bedside nurse, an educator, an advanced practice nurse, a leader, or retired from active practice, your experiences and perspectives strengthen our collective voice.

I hope you will join us October 1–2 for our Annual Convention as we celebrate where we have been and explore where we are going together. It is an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, gain new insights, recognize excellence, and leave inspired by the incredible work happening across our state.

The momentum within NNA is undeniable. We are advocating for the profession, investing in leadership development, recognizing excellence, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection and growth. None of this would be possible without members who generously give their time, talents, and passion in service to nursing.

Thank you for everything you do—not only for your patients and communities but also for our profession. Your leadership, compassion, and commitment continue to shape the future of nursing while honoring the legacy that brought us here.
