The Nurse 5K is much more than a race—it is a celebration of nursing, wellness, and community. As a collaborative partnership between the South Carolina Nurses Association (SCNA) and the South Carolina Nurses Foundation (SCNF), this event represents a shared commitment to investing in the future of nursing while promoting the well-being of those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. Through scholarship fundraising, the Nurse 5K helps aspiring and practicing nurses advance their education, strengthen their professional development, and contribute to a stronger healthcare workforce. Equally important, the event brings together nurses, healthcare professionals, students, community partners, and supporters to connect, collaborate, and build lasting relationships. Rooted in the principles of self-care and wellness, the Nurse 5K encourages participants to prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional health while honoring the compassion, resilience, and commitment that define the nursing profession.
Our 3rd Annual Nurse 5K was an extraordinary success, bringing together an inspiring community united by a shared passion for nursing, wellness, and service. The morning was filled with enthusiasm, encouragement, and meaningful connections as participants gathered to celebrate the profession while supporting a worthy cause. The energy throughout the event reflected the strength of the nursing community and the impact we can make when we come together with purpose.
This event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our Nurse 5K Committee. Their vision, commitment, and countless hours of planning helped create an exceptional experience for all who attended. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Strictly Running for their partnership, expertise, and unwavering support throughout the planning and execution of the event.
We are profoundly grateful to our generous sponsors whose support made this event possible. Our Platinum Sponsors included Great South Advisory Group of Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC, USC College of Nursing, Midlands of South Carolina Black Nurses Association, South University, and Carolina Interventional Pain Institute. Our Gold Sponsors included Clemson School of Nursing, Upstate Nurse Practitioner Association, and Boston Scientific. Our Silver Sponsors included Delta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi, Inc., Filter Chiropractic, and Sigma Alpha Xi Chapter. Their investment in this event demonstrates a commitment not only to nursing excellence but also to the future growth and development of the profession.
A special thank you is extended to Food Lion and Trader Joe’s for their generous donations of water, fruit, flowers, and treats that enhanced the experience for our participants. We would also like to recognize our Nurse Ally, Mrs. Patricia Brown, mother of our President-Elect, Nakita Barnes, whose warm spirit and dedication helped keep the SCNA fruit and snack table welcoming, inviting, and fully stocked throughout the event. Her support exemplified the sense of community and service that made the day so special.
Because of the incredible generosity of our sponsors, volunteers, and participants, this year’s Nurse 5K welcomed more than 150 registrants—our largest turnout to date—and raised more than $2,000 for the South Carolina Nurses Foundation to support nursing scholarships. Every dollar raised helps create educational opportunities for future and current nurses, strengthening the profession and enhancing healthcare outcomes throughout South Carolina. Together, SCNA and SCNF are building a culture that values wellness, professional growth, collaboration, leadership development, and lifelong learning.
As we celebrate the success of this year’s event, we are already looking ahead to the 2027 Nurse 5K, scheduled for May 22, 2027. We invite individuals who are passionate about supporting nurses and advancing the profession to join us as volunteers, sponsors, participants, and advocates. There is tremendous power in what we can accomplish together. Through the continued partnership of the South Carolina Nurses Association and the South Carolina Nurses Foundation, we remain committed to supporting nurses, promoting self-care, fostering professional connections, and investing in the next generation of nursing leaders. Together, we are creating a lasting impact on the nursing profession and the communities we serve.
