Our Spring was busy meeting our mission to further nursing knowledge and to collaborate with other community partners. The March meeting presenter was Brittney Cardell RN, BSN, who spoke about her work as a nurse at the Natura Med Spa and IV Bar which offers a variety of services including facials, dermal fillers, Botox, laser treatments and body contouring. On April 15, Angie Fellers LeMire, RN, MSN, Principle and Co-Founder of Community Centered Reproductive Health (CORE) discussed her role in leading the development of clinical and public health initiatives that champion contraceptive, sexual, and reproductive health care for all.
Members continued to participate in activities with other community partners, joining Nurses in Action to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, volunteered on April 18 at Project Cure, and attended Colorado Rockies baseball games during Health Appreciation Week. We also joined the celebration at the Colorado Nurses Foundation 2026 Excellence in Nursing Gala. Annette Cannon, NFK President and Jefferson County Coroner partnered with Arapahoe Community College to begin a class for a Medicolegal Death Investigation Certificate. This is an ideal certification for interested nurses per Dr. Cannon. Dr. Cannon attended the Colorado Space Institute event in February “Towards an Aerospace Workforce Strategy” to add voice to the future of Aerospace Nurses and the development of courses for nurses.
Thanks to the success of our March 30 fundraiser at the Lakewood Cultural Center attended by 30 members and their family and friends, $261 was raised from ticket sales and $400 in donations. NFK has raised enough money to award a $1500 scholarship administered in 2026 through the CNF. Donations toward the scholarship can be sent directly to CNF noting the monies are for the NFK scholarship.
Dr. Cannon was honored by Capitol Hill United Ministries and Women’s Homeless Initiative at the Giving from the Heart event in February 2026 for providing health care guidance, hands on healing and care to unhoused women through Cannon Health Care Consulting. Her presentations include “Opioids/ Narcan and Saving a Life” on March 6 at Conifer Library and March 13 at Stanley Lake Library, Arvada. She was part of a panel presentation on February 19 titled “Fatalities from the Perspective of Colorado Coroners” hosted by the Colorado Consortium of Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Affected Families and Friends Work Group at the University of Colorado Anschutz. She continues to post her monthly President’s Message on MyCNA. Her article “The Good and the Bad of Grief’ was published in Volume 126 No. 1 of the Colorado Nurse.
Congratulations to Annette for her success in getting an NFK logo approved by the American Nurses Association. Hopefully the next NFK report will include the finalized version. Kudos to Rita Beam, NFK Board Member at Large, for supporting the Colorado Public Health Section Public Health Nurses Section to be an affiliate member of CNA.
