Connie Perkins, PhD, RN, CNE Our organization is filled with opportunities for engagement. One of the best parts of this position has been meeting so many members who give back through our committees. With summer upon us, it is officially voting season at ANA-NY. If you want to get involved and meet some pretty great nurses from across our state, I recommend throwing your hat in the ring. We have five standing committees of the board and two other board committees. All of the committees help define who we are as an organization. The audit committee, chaired by Dr. Beverly Karas-Irwin, keeps us compliant with our 990 and if needed reviews relevant policies. The bylaws committee, chaired by Delaney Sanders, reviews any amendments to our bylaws for merit, applicability, and substance to get them “vote ready” for our annual Governing Assembly. The finance committee, chaired by our board treasurer and past president Lee Mancuso, frequently reviews profit and loss statements as we prepare and follow our annual budget. The nominations and elections committee, chaired by past president Dr. Marilyn Dollinger, assembles our voting ballots and reviews our election results. The legislation committee, chaired by Jake Wilkins, works directly with ANA-NY’s talented lobbyist to review bills at the state level following the legislative priorities adopted by our members at the Governing Assembly. The awards committee, chaired by past board member Tanya Drake, scores the submissions and finalizes the awardees presented at our annual meeting. The nursing education committee, chaired by Suzanne Elie, discusses trends and issues in nursing education in academia and clinical settings to inform our members via publication. A big shout out and thank you to all of our chairs and members! More information, such as typical meeting frequency, can be found on our website (https://anany.org/about/committees). If you have room on your service plate, need something great to add to your resume, if I piqued your interest, or you just want to get more involved with ANA-NY, keeping watching your Thursday emails for the call for committee sign-ups which will be June 4-July 10, 2026. By joining your colleagues on these committees, you can meet new nurse friends while also continuing to keep ANA-NY a great organization. If you can’t serve this time, consider it for next year or sign up for a Special Interest Group anytime throughout the year on our website.
