Now more than ever, celebrate nursing
YOU make a difference
Despite all of the strife and challenges around the world—including pandemics, war, and violence—nurses are there, everywhere, caring for patients. The American Nurses Association (ANA) puts it best: “The impact of nurses on healthcare is unparalleled, directly affecting the health and well-being of our society. Nurses are everywhere we live, work, play, learn, and worship, and in every healthcare setting providing care to millions of people.”
National Nursing Month: The Theme
ANA selected the theme, Nurses Make a Difference, to honor the varying roles of nurses and their positive impact on our lives. Nurses make a difference by ensuring quality patient care. Nurses make a difference by influencing and shaping health policy decisions. Nurses make a difference by caring, no matter the circumstance.
How will you celebrate?
The month-long celebration of the nursing profession allows for many opportunities to promote appreciation of the invaluable contributions of nurses. May 2022 is divided into four weekly focus areas—Self-Care, Recognition, Professional Development, and Community Engagement.
Week 1—Self-care (May 1–7) is dedicated to cultivating and maintaining optimal mental health and physical well-being.
Week 2—Recognition (May 8–14) will honor the work of nurses who lead, excel, and innovate in our healthcare systems and our communities, making them vital to transforming the future of healthcare.
Week 3—Professional development (May 15–21) will show you how to access resources and insights to guide you in your professional development. Focus on how you can excel and lead in your nursing career or inspire and help others in their professional nursing journey.
Week 4—Community engagement (May 22–31) will focus on engaging with your community, whether virtually or in-person. Educate members of your community on what nurses do beyond the bedside — advocacy, shaping public policy, or serving as an organization board.
