Since the discovery of multidrug-resistant infections, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci, concern has grown regarding antibiotic resistance among sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This concern is especially significant for gonorrheal infections because antibiotic resistance already exists.
