Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a Joint Safety Communication saying they “strongly encourage” healthcare professionals to use blunt-tip suture needles instead of standard suture needles to reduce the risk of needlestick injury.
