Helping nurses to achieve nursing excellence

Share

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, provides individuals and organizations throughout the nursing profession with the resources they need to achieve practice excellence. ANCC’s internationally renowned credentialing programs certify nurses in specialty practice areas; recognize healthcare organizations for promoting safe, positive work environments through the Magnet Recognition Program® and the Pathway to Excellence™ Program; and accredit providers of continuing nursing education.

With 30 years of accreditation history, ANCC is the industry’s leader in recognition of continuing nursing education programs. Currently, more than 275 organizations can boast of ANCC accreditation, having voluntarily undergone a peer-review process. These organizations assist nurses in finding the highest-quality continuing nursing education programs available and in giving them confidence that their time and money are well spent.

Nursing professionals know that ANCC certification is valued and widely accepted evidence to the public and the profession of the quality of their nursing skills. Nurse managers say they prefer to hire certified nurses because certification demonstrates an individual’s knowledge base and documented experience in a given specialty. Nurses board certified in a specialty area earn on average $9,000 more than their counterparts who aren’t board certified.

The Magnet Recognition Program, the gold standard for identifying organizations that provide the best in nursing care, is a vehicle for disseminating successful practices and strategies among nursing systems. Attaining Magnet status communicates a healthcare organization’s determination to provide quality care to patients and a positive practice environment for nurses.

“Nurse Magnet hospitals are where the best nurses work, the morale is highest, and the hospital has the most resources. You want to be where the nurses want to be,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen (authors of YOU: The Smart Patient), on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” March 30, 2006.

These programs and services enable healthcare professionals and organizations to achieve superior nursing knowledge, prestige, and a competitive edge. The results are skilled nurses who love their work, highly regarded healthcare facilities that attract and retain the best nursing professionals, and the finest nursing care available.
