When will CMS begin gathering the data on adverse events in LTC/PC/AL/and Home Care settings? The current LTC 5 Star System does not adress rehospitalization, medication errors, treatment errors, inappropriate PCP orders or other parameters of quality of care outcomes. Systemic problems such as absent/poor orientation, clinical leadership, administrative leadership, and ongoing staff education are areas rife for benchmarking research. Of course, the next step requires standardized application.
