Grief, an adaptive, emotional, and healthy response to a loss, can sometimes result in distress, fear, trauma, and regret. Bereavement is the period of grief and mourning (how individuals show their grief in public) that occurs after the death of a loved one. Healing through grief involves thinking about, adapting, and integrating the loss into your current life. The degree of loss experienced usually correlates with the level of impact a person has had on your life. The greater the void left behind, the more adaptation you’ll require, and the greater the experience of grief. The death of a spouse, for example, has been identified as one of the most distressful life events.
