ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights publishes annual report

The ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020. In its annual report for 2019, the center looks back at recent accomplishments.

In 2019, the center released the position statement, “The nurse’s role when a patient requests medical aid in dying,” which was covered in The New York Times. The center also produced new educational videos that accompanied position statements on managing pain and addressing discrimination. The ANA Ethics Advisory Board continued its national advocacy efforts to increase ethics in nursing curriculum across schools of nursing in the United States.

In 2020, the ANA Ethics Advisory Board developed Leading Ethically from Where You Are, a webinar on topics designed to strengthen your skills as a nursing leader. Listen to the recording at NursingWorld.org.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the advisory board published “Provision 5: Self-care & COVID-19” for guidance when questions arise about duty to care and duty to self. Download the document here.
